The Report on Business survey of mutual funds measures the performance of various types of funds as of the date specified. The results go back 15 years.
Accompanying each table is a description of the funds that make up the category and their investment objectives. ** indicates fund reports gross performance return.
The letter "C" after a fund name indicates a closed fund in which no new subscriptions are accepted.
The letter "R" indicates that the fund is restricted to certain investors (doctors, for example) or confined to sale in certain provinces.
Under the heading MER (for management expense ratio), all management fees and operating expenses (excluding goods and services tax) of the fund are shown as a percentage of the fund's average total net assets. An asterisk represents funds that arbitrarily do not include management fees in their management expense ratio.
The return figures show the percentage change in the value of the investment for a one-year period, reflecting a reinvestment of dividends, and subtracting management fees and expenses.
Sales fees, in any, and the management fees charged directly to investors are not deducted from the total returns.
The average return for the entire group, as well as the highest and lowest returns, are shown at the bottom of each table. This enables an investor to compare returns within the category, and average performance of the whole group with other groups.
An underlined return indicates above average returns.
