CI Investments Inc. took home the most prizes last night at the Canadian Investment Awards, including one for Eric Bushell as Morningstar equity fund manager of the year.
"[Mr. Bushell] rarely tops the performance charts in any given year, but consistency has been his hallmark," Morningstar analyst Philip Lee said.
Mr. Bushell, who is also chief investment officer of CI's Signature Global Advisors division, runs CI Signature Select Canadian, among others. That fund gained 15.9 per cent for the year ended Oct. 31, versus 15.7 per cent for the S&P/TSX Total Return. Over 10 years, it has an annualized return of 10.7 per cent compared with 6.4 per cent for the index.
CI won seven awards. Mr. Bushell's Signature Canadian Balanced won in the Canadian balanced category, and his CI Signature Dividend for the Canadian dividend and income equity group. CI also garnered the analysts' choice investment fund company of the year award.
A new award for Morningstar fixed-income fund manager of the year went to Bruce Corneil. He runs Beutel Goodman Income, which also took the top honours in the Canadian fixed-income group.
Dynamic Funds snagged four awards, including the advisors' choice investment fund company of the year award. Dynamic Value was the winner of the Canadian equity category.
