Scotiabank buys one-third of new China fund firm

Bank of Nova Scotia says it will pay $15-million (U.S.) for 33 per cent of a new mutual fund company in China that will be formed with the Bank of Beijing. The new joint venture, Bank of Beijing Scotiabank Asset Management Co. Ltd., will market mutual funds to retail and institutional customers through the Chinese bank's national branch network. BNS (TSX) rose $1.05 (Canadian) to $47.50.
